Charles Stand, aged 34, unmarried, whilst riding from Strathern station to adjoining station, was thrown from his horse and died from concussion of the brain. Miss Slatorly an old resident at Cromwell, died from injuries sustained through a fall ovec the river bank. Mr W. Blair and District Engineer Usher, to-day inspected Wangataui via-' duct on the-Otagp Central, and tested it in every possible way. The formal opentakes place to-morrow. * David Parsons was charged at the Police Court to day with embezzlement from his employer, and was remanded, as several charges of forgery are to preferred. TIMARU, Friday. A portion of a trunk with one arm of a male's human body was picked up under the wharf this morning. There is no possibility of identification, but it is generally believed to be the remains of young Birrell who was drowned by the capsizing of a yacht two months ago.
