THE PROPOSED WAIKATO AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—ln your issue this morning you publish a speech made by Mr Russell in Le Quesne's Hall on Monday evening. It reads very well, and doubtless will have some effect if the statements made are true—but there is the rub. Speaking of an agricultural college for Waikato, Mr Russell boldly asserts that " A reserve for the purpose, near Hamilton, had been handed over to the Waikato County Counciland again, "He would ask; publicly, . what had been done ? He judged by the silence that nothing had been done, and if not, why not? He trusted before the contest ended to obtain an answer to the question." I am at a loss to understand the motive for the dead silence mentioned, unless it was that that the whole subject matter of the speech was of a like character to the above, and the good people of Hamilton did not care to tell an eloquent stranger at every other sentence that he was romancing, but the answer is very simple, and could have been given there and then by you, Sir, if you wished. It is that the only reserve ever handed over, to or held by the Waikato County Council, is half-an-acre of land in Hamilton East, on -which their council chamber stands.—Yours faithfully, No. 5.
