Sydney, June 12. A DEPUTATION of clergy waited on Sir Henry Parkes yesterday and requested him to. stop. Sunday amusements. In consequence of orders given Jast night the theatres were closed to.-night, great ment being caused thereby. A largely attended open-air meeting was held to protest against the action of the authorities in < closing the places of amusement. Tt is understood that the Premier has taken this action for the regulation of placcs of amusement, which empowers him to close such places if a written permission has not been obtained. It is expected that the present session of Parliament will close at the end of this month. A declaration of loyalty to the throne, laws, and' institutions wasf adopted at the Jubilee meeting last night, and is being extensively signed, as a protest against the disgraceful proceedings at the meeting. A private letter from Samoa, dated 28th May, states that war is imminent there, Tamasese having decided to again attempt the deposition of Malietoa, The letter further says that the ..Germans support the pretensions of Tamasese. New Zealand wheat is quoted at 3s 3d to 3s 9d ; New Zealand Oats, Is 9d to 2s ; maize is selling at 3s 3d ; and potatoes at 50s. M elbourne, June 11. Fully eight thousand people were present, and several members of the South Australian Parliament spoke. Resolutions were passed condemning the Salisbury Government. Sydney, June 13. Sir 11. Parkes' action in prohibiting the use of theatres on Sundays has caused considerable excitement here. The Secularists declare they will fight the matter to the end. A meeting, convened by Lady Oarrington for to-night, in connection with the Queen's Jubilee fund for women, is postponed until Wednesday.
