Wellington, Monday. The Premier is again offering his services to the electors of Dunedin East. He has issued a manifesto, in which he lays down the principal planks of his platform. These are : (1) Retrenchment in the public service; (2) any additional taxation that may be necessary, to be so arranged as not to increase the burdens of persons of small means ; (3) au increase of Customs duties, to be so imposed as to assist local industries ; (4) continuance of present land settlement scheme; (5) strengthening of local Government by decentralisation of all possible Government functions; (fi) maintenance of all hazards of the present educational system. ■ A public meeting called by the mayor will be held on Wednesday night to consider the necessary steps to send Heart), the champion sculler of New Zealand, to Sydney to take part in the world's sculling' races to be held there in January. The body of a man named Ring, drowned in the Manawatn river about six weeks back, was found to-day and brought back into Palmerston. At the Supreme Court to-day the case Scott. .v. the Accident insurrance Association of New Zealand was partially heard. The plaintiff is Emily Dallen Scott, widow of the late William John Scott, who died in September last from injuries sustained through falling down stairs] at the Central Hotel, of which he was licensee, and the action is brought to recover from the Accident Insurance Association of New Zealand for the sum of £1000, being the amount of the policy issued by that corporation. The case has been adjourned till Tuesday. The premises of Messrs McDougall and Co.,'wine merchants, were burglariously entered on Saturday night, but beyond indulging in a drinking bout the ; burglars did no damage. The police aro enquiring into the affair.
