LATEST AUCKLAND NEWS.
[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] The Marsden Seat. Auckland, Monday Night. It is reported on good authority that Mr Mitchelson will oppose Mr Dargaville for Marsden. - Supreme Court, Criminal Sessions. The Judge in his charge regretted that the number of charges was even larger than usual, though comparatively few were of the most serious character. Peter Furu, charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, was acquitted. Samuel Faulkner, convicted of forging a cheque, was released under the Probation Act. Walter Eggerton, charged with assaulting John Scott at the Papakura gum field, was acquitted. Sudden Death. A sudden death occurred at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Hobson-street, where John Hearst, blacksmith, was found dead in his bed. Sir G-. Grey. Sir G-. Grey returns to Auckland shortly, to commence a stumping tour of the country by an address to the electors of Auckland East. Jubilee Day. The Mayor has fixed Tuesday, the 21st .June, as the Jubilee holiday in Auckland, and the night for illuminations.
