A STRANGE SCANDAL.

An application was made:, on Monday in thoContral Criminal Court, London, in a case relating to ,the shooting affair at Bow li&'t w<?ek. !Mtv.Gill, barrister, announced: that was instructed to defend a woman-' named Snellock charged with libel by a man named Walker. Walker had been employed-by the Enst London Water Works Company as iuspector, and in the course of bin duty had visited Mrs Snellotik'H house and courted her daughter. Ho had taken- her to uregisfcrar's office and gi von notice of his intention, to marry the girl, and induced her to go to his rooms, whoro hocrimjnally usaauUed her. He,!Kl''->-'wards declined to marry her, and tho girl <!onteniplated suicide. This became known 1,0 the mother, who ascertained that Wiilkof was married, and learned other thinga raid t.o be exceedingly damaging to hin character. The woman put tbo complaint, in ' writing, and was confronted with Walker before the Board of Directors of the Waterworks Company. Walker admitted ho, had been married, but said ,be was divorced. He was suspended or dismissed in consequence. Mrs Suellock accused him of being of profligate habits, and of bragging of, leading oilier women astray. Walker charged Snellock with, crimiudl libel, and tha case now stood for hearing. .The learned counsel said he was, instructed to court the fullest inquiry, but: the, extraordinary ciroum-, stance of Walker having shot himself, or beeu shot,: at..Bow in the.same rooms where he seduced the girl, rendered it necessary, that there should be an adjournment. Ho therefore applied that Mrs Snellook should be allowed out on her own.recognisances, >to which his Lordship assented.
