Wellington, Monday. Sir James Hector expresses tho opinion that the recent high tides were duo to ■ the volcanic disturbances in New Mexico on May 4th. On Saturday, the 7th, at noon, the tide which should have been at half-ebb rose rapidly, rushing up the Hutt river and flooding the refreshment rooms on the racecourse.
