This evening, wiiilo McDonald, master painter, aud one of his employes named Brown were engaged removing a scaffolding nuisidts the Cmb Hotel it suddenly gave w.iv. piecipitatintr them on the pavement, a disunej of 24 feet. McDonald is believed to have -.pinal injuries, aud Brown m .-mere shakinsr and several cuts.
It is underst iod that the Government, with a view of preventing smuggling, intend to create a new police district north of Auckland, and that Inspector Brown, chief of the detective force, Wellington, has been offered charge of it.
The captain and crew of the ill-fated Go-ahead and part of the crew of the Northumberland arrived here this morning. It is probable a magisterial enquiry into the loss of the Go-ahead will be held here.
