THREATENED SUICIDE OF LOVERS IN WEST ABERDEENSHIRE.

The genial and kiud-hearted people of a rising burgh north of Benochie were recently startled by a double case of threatened suicide through disappointed love. A promising lad had the hardihood (so the story runs) to court two fair maidens, one a sober-minded lass, and the other a giddy damsel given to flirtation. Like too many more inexperienced lovers, the hero of the tale preferred the flirt to her more loving companion, and suffered for his pains by her turning against him. In despair, he rushed to the railway station with the avowed purpose of castiug himself before a passing train. Before attempting the rash act, however, having on his overcoat, he had the good sense to take it off, considerately thinking, no doubt, it would be of use to someone else when he was gone, and, unfortunately, or rather fortunately, the train had passed the station ere he reached it. The sequel follows. His intentions having been known, he was pursued by a maiden rushing wildly, not by her who had rejected him, but by her whom he had neglected, aud her threat was to drown herself. Happily both returned in safety, she rejoicing in the recovery of her lost love, and he—well, we hope, if not feeling a hero, at least feeling thankful for having escaped the toils of a silly flirt, and for enjoying the true love of at least one woman, prepared eveu to die for him, if need be.
