SOUTH AUSTRALIAN ELECTIONS.

The Parliamentry elections are now completed, and the Legislative Assembly is composed chiefly of members who have not satin Parliament before. There ia a substantial majority in favour of protection, and an absolute majority in favour of the payment of members. A large majority will support an increase jn the land tax. The Government have intimated that they have abandoued their intention of introducing a property tax on the basis of the New Zealand Act. It is expected that Parliament, with a view to adjust the revenue, will immediately deal with the following subje:ts:—Thorough organisation of the system of leasing Crown lands, and of pastoral runs, on the expiration of the present leaces; appointment of boards controling civil service and railways. It is expected that the revenue from the present land and income taxes will be increased by abolishing exemption.
