HAMILTON WESLEYAN CHURCH.
«. Anniversary Soiree. The soirue held last night in the Public Hall was a great success. The tables were provided by the members of the congregation, and presided over by Mesdames Salmon, Home, Cox, Cross, Andrew, Tidd, Misses Campbell, Maunder, Rothwell, Salmon, Cox and Chappell, and were bountifully supplied with tempting diinties. Full justice was done to the good things by the company present, numbering about 150. After the tea was over the hall was soon put in order for the after meeting, After a prayer by the Rev. J. S. Rishworth, and a few words by the chairman, the choir sang the anthem, "Praise Ye the Lord," by R. A. Smith. The Rev. J. Dellow then read a report of the church, and showed the state of the finances. He also expressed himself gratified at the attendance. Miss Trewheellar then sang "Charity." The Rev. Mr Rishworth then gave a good speech upon " the influence of Christianity upon the world." Miss Salmon san?, "0 rest in the Lord," from " Elijah." The Rev. J. J. Mather then addressed the meeting. He was in a happy mood, and kept the audience in a good humour. Mr Dellow followed with a song, " Listening Angels." The anthem by R. A. Smith, " Sing unto God" followed. Votes of thanks to all who had contributed to the success of the soiree were then moved by Mr Melville seconded by MrTucker, and carried by acclamation. Miss Chappell then sang, "The Lost Chord," for which she received an encore. After which the choir sang, '•Lord What is Mine!" The benediction said by the Rev. J. Dellow brought to a conclusion one of the most enjoyable meetings held in Hamilton for a long time.
