<8= [BY TELEGRAPH. —I'HESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Monday. Wiremu Katene, an influential Ngapahi chief, is montiiiiu-d as a probable candidate, to be selected by the tribe for the seat vacanted by the death of Hakuene Katene, who is one of the most powerful chiefs of the Npapahi. He was formerly a member of the House, and for some time occupied a seat in the Cabinet. It is understood that a firm in this city are making a claim for £94,000 for foreshore rights in connection with the Te Aro. reclamation. The claim will be decided by the Compensation Court. It is considered probable that Mr F. li. Fraser, member for Te Aro, and Mr Jones, member for Heathcote, will move and second the Address-in-Reply in the House of Representatives.
