RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT, CAMBRIDGE.

Yesterday.—(Before Capt. Jackson, R.M.) McFaiilane V. NixON.—This was a compensation claim under the Fencing Act, ISBI and was heard on the last Court day, when the R.M. deferred giving judgment. Captain Jackson said he had not only heard the evidence given in Court but had gone over it carefully since then, and had found it very contradictory. He thought plaintiff had sustained a slight amount of damage; he therefore awarded £2 us compensation, defendant to pay costs. Mr Hay asked to have £3 3s allowed as solicitor's fee, as the case had been a difficult one, and was the first of the kind that had occurred. The R.M., while allowing that it had been a troublesome case for the solicitors, thought it would be fairly met by allowing £2 2s. Mr Hay also applied for £2 2s to be allowed to Mr Gwynneth. £1 Is was allowed. James Ransfield v. A. B. Stubbing.— Claim £3 14s Gd. Mr Hay for defendant applied for it to be adjourned for a month, as he (defendant) had been summoned to attend the Land Court at Taupo, and was on his road thither when served with the summons. Application granted. Costs to Rtand over until the case is heard. Official Assignee in the Estate ov R. K. Davis v. A. Isaacs.-Claim £17 4s 6d. Several telegrams had been received from plaintiff pleading ignorance as to the date of hearing and asking for an adjournment. Mr Hay for defendant opposed the adjournment, and said Mr Lawson could not be ignorant of it, as Mr Isaacs had telegraphed to him two days before. Adjournment with costs for a fortnight. . , ... Two boys Alfred and Patrick Devitt were charged with stealing three axe heads, the property of the New Zealand Govern ment.—Capt Jackson cautioned the boys, and read the father—who was in c-mrt, a severe lecture upon the training of children, after which the youngsters were discharged. This closed the business.
