Regarding the Liverpool-street works some discussion ensued. Cr. Knox was opposed to accepting either tender on the grounds (I) that they were too high, and (2) that the financial position of the borough required that they should pull in their horns.-Cr. Tippen had opposed the work before and would again, his reason being that it was not required.—Cr. Von Stunner concurred with this.—Cr. Barton, who laid off the work, said it could not bo done cheaper. He protested against the practice of authorising works at one meeting and rejecting them at the next. He moved that the lowest tender be accepted.—The motion was seconded by Cr. Bell.—Cr. Knox moved and Cr. Tippen seconded, an amendment to the effect that no tender be accepted.—Crs. Edgecuinbe and Jones supported the motion.—For the amendment there voted only the mover, seconder, and Cr. Von Stunner, and the motion was therefore carried.
This concluded the business.
