TE AROHA.
( FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Te Aroha, Friday. The first meeting of the newly elected town board, was held in the Public Hall yesterday evening, the whole of the members being present.--Mr E. Quinn was elected te fill the chair until a permanent chairman was appointed. The proceedings were chiefly of a conversational nature having reference to the various powers and duties of the board. Mr J. A. Dobson pro posed that Mr D. J. Frazer, be chairman but the proposition failed to find a seconder. On the motion of Mr J. Gornes, seconded by Mr M. Hotchin, Mr Quinn was elected to fill the office. After expressing his thanks the newly appointed chairman referred to the duties which members had to perform. It was necessary that they should |*#ake themselves acquainted with the act u«jder which they had to work and to do this a little time would be required. He would suggest that no business other than was absolutely necessary should be entered upon that evening and in this view the other members seemed to concnn. The rest of the proceedings therefore referred mainly to the measures necessary for the proper carryingout of the duties of the board. On the motion of Mr J). J. Frazer seconded by Mr M. Hotchin it was resolved "that applications be invited for the office of town clerk by advertisement in the Te Aroha News, of March 19th, and that applications be left with the chairman not later than 0 p.m. on March 2(ith" It was proposed by Mr J. Cornes, seconded by Mr M. Hotchin and carried that a> seal be obtained at a cost not exceeding £1 10s and that the selection of the same be left to the chairman and Mr Frftzer" also "that the same members be empowered to procure copies of the Town District Act and all the Acts bearing thereupon. Mr J. A. Dobson proposed and Mr Hotchin seconded "that the chairman, and Mr Frazer be authorised to endeavour to make arrangements with the Bank of Now Zealand for -money to meet the immediate requirements of the board. Carried. The chairman proposed and Mr J. Cornes seconded, " that Messrs Dobson, Frazer, and Hotchen be a committee to endeavour to procuse a suitable place for an office and for meetings of the board." Carried. It was also resolved that the meetings of the board be held on the last Saturday of each month, and that the hour of meeting be 8 p.m. Mr D. J. Frazer was appointed to act a clerk pro tern. The rest of the business was unimportant.
