Huntly Races
The above races took place on St. Patrick's Day, on Mr Ralph's farm. There was a very good attendance, and the weather wss delightful. The Ngaruawahia Brass Band was on the ground, and discoursed some excellent music during the day. Everything passed off satisfactorily, and the Committee did all in their power to make the visitors comfortable. The following are the results: — HANDICAP HURDLES. Argyle 1 Tidal Wave Rotorua 3 3JAIDEN PLATE. Ernest 1 •Joe... 2 Maid of the Mist 3 Seven faced the starter for this event, and they were all despatched to an excellent start. Maid of the Mist made the running, and at the back of the course was joined by Joe and Ernest. The three entered the straight together, when Ernest having: the most in hand come to the front and won by a length from Joe. Maori Race. Dick Hunt(l2st) 1 Maungatautari(7st) 2 Dick Hunt won easily. Some mistake occured in this race the horse going twice round instead of once. PoNi" Race. Fanny Fisher 1 Lollipop 2 Tui •> Huntly Handicap. Dick Hunt 1 Joe 2 Diana 3 Won by five lengths. Settlers' Race. Argyle j Fanny I isher T This race resulted in a dead heat between Argyle and Fanny Fisher. It was the best race of the day, and considerable interest was taken in it, owing to the fact of it being a Settlers' race. In the run off, Argyle had all the best of it, and won easily. Consolation. Maid of the Mist 1 In the evening a concert and ball was held in the schoolroom, which proved a great success, and brought a. very enjoyable meeting to a close.
