[EEUTKIt'S I KLEGHAMS. ] London, March 11. Captain Buennan's services are to he retained by the Wtir Office. Mr W. H. Smith, Secretary for War, stated that Brennan's torpedo is a perfect defence in places where otherwise it would be difficult to provide protection. The French Chamber of Deputies has imposed a tax of five francs per hundred kilos on foreign wheat. March 12. There has been a marked exchange of courtesy between the Russian and German courts. A sharp earthquake shock was felt here this afternoon. JNo damage was caused, but a temporary panic arose among the inhabitants. Paris, March 13. Another slight shock of earthquake was experienced at Cannes to-day. Calcutta, March 11. It is announced that the recently acquired territory in Bnrtnah is to be formed into a province of British India, and placed under the control of a Lieutenant(iuvernor and Council.
