HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL
The usual monthly meeting of the council was held last; night. Present: Crs. Knox (in tl)o absence of the Mayor, in the chair), Von Stunner, Barton, Tip.po.ii, 8011, and Dey,
Mr A. Campbell wrote, asking the council to make som« repairs to Tiiackeraystreet, which was quite impassable in winter. He pointed out that very little had been spent upon it, and that it was the approach to the Lake reserve.—Referred to the chairman of the works committee with power to act.
Mr W. G. Bunting wrote, asking to have Brookfield-street, which had been fenced across, re-opened, as it was die road to his residence.—Referred to the Domain Board, T.he Mayor wrote, enclosing the resolution pawned at the public meeting approving the proposal to apply ±,'IOOO of the loan to the erection of public abattoirs. Mrs Isabella Moore wrote, stating that a cow belonging to her, and depasturing in the West Commonage had been dr-owned jn a creek situated therein, and asking the council to take her case into favourable consideration, with a view to compensating her if that were possible. The letter was received.
Mr John Webb wrote, asking the council to form a portion of the road between his property and Mr Old ham's paddock, in order that a horse and dray might be taken thither.—Referred to the works committee for repprt. The Olerl* of the Kirikiriroa Road Board wrote, jntiinatjng fc'iat tlje board would be willing to contribute one-third of the expenditure on the cemetery road, the total amount of the contract not to exceed £fiO, provided the said road were taken through the town belt eastward of Manktellow's and Rayuer's Gully, near the corner of Mr Hunt's fence.—Cr. Von Stunner reported that, in company with Or. Tippen, he had visited the grouud, and found that an excellent road could be obtained as suggested by the Kirikiriroa board for less money than it would take to repair the present dangerous road, which could not under any circumstances be made a good good one. A committee consisting of Crs. Tippen, Von Sturmer and Bell was appointed, with power to act, to take measures for the immediate construction of the proposed new road.
The ranger- and poundkeoner reported that during the month of February he had impounded 10 head of cattle and IQQ sheep. He had registered 13 dogs, making a total of UU. He had collected the following moneys :—Hamilton East Commonage, lQ.s (jd ; Homilton East cemetery paddock, la (jd ; Hamilton Wes.t Commonage, 13s Gd; Hamilton Wast Park Reserve, 5s ; R. Bradley's padddock£3 4s tid ; poundage fees, £1 lid ; dog fees, £3 ss, Total £!) 11s od.
The bath committee was authorised to make and enforce regulations for the proper conduct of the baths, and it was further resolved that the caretaker (Mr Pannell) be requested to be in attendance during the hour when the female school pupils were bathing, in ordar to prevent accidents, parents to be requested to provide their daughters with proper bathing costumes,
The following accounts were passed for payment:— J. Calderwood, £2 ; W. Taylor, £S 10s 10d; J. Wright, £11 11s 2d ; S. Davis, £2 3s ; J. Steadman, 17s ; A. Campbell, £1 sa; W. Peaqock, 10s (id ;G. Mayes, £4 2s ; The Waikato Timkh, £14 14s ; J. C. Booth, £143 4s; silver cradle, £17 los; ranger and poundkeeper, £4 10s 3d. Cr. Von Stunner said it was Capt. Steele's intention to be present that night to submit a draft of the agreement re the abattoirs, but as he had been unexpectedly called away, he had requested him (Cr. Von Stilrmer) to apologise to the council on his behalf.—On the motion of Cr. Von Stunner, it was resolved that the council at its rising adjourn until Friday night, in order to meet Capt. Steele iu reference to the abattoirs. Several other matters were dealt with, and the council rose.
