TE AROHA.
(FHOJI OUR OWN CORUKSPONDKNT.) Te Akoha, Monday. The monthly mooting of the domain board was hold in the board room on Saturday evening. Present: Messrs Gavin (chairman), Ahier, Wilson, Lipsey, and Qmnn. The only inward correspondence read was the following letter from the Lands Department, Wellington, addressed to the chairman of tho board:-" Sin, -I am directed by the- hon. the Minister of Lands to acknowledge receipt of your letter of February 9th, and to thank you for tho report upon the Te Aroha hatha and domain for 188(5. Mr Ballance desires me to state that thave are no further funds at the disposal <* for the domain, and any additional work tho board desire to have carried out should be provided for out of the revenue derived from the baths and domain. In regard to the appointment of a resident medical officer, Mr Ballanco directs me to say that the Government cannot provide funds for the payment of a resident medical man. If a practice is to be established at Te Aroha, Mr Ballanco has no doubt that some gentleman wonld soon take up his residence there.—i have the honour to be, &c, H.J. H. Elliot.' , The secretary gave a .statement of the reVi "'e'eipts from tho baths for the four weeks, showing the amount to be £4S 10s, "leaving an available balance of £41 4s (id to meet liabilities. Accounts amounting to £29 14s were passed for payment. In accordance with notice received from the •v\• Warden's office, it was resolved to have •''' the sections recently acquired on the northern side of the domain surveyed at a cost of 11s 7d each, Mr Ahier brought forward his motion re clerical assistance, 1 ' of which he had given notice at the previous meeting, and moved ''That applications for the position of secretary to the domain board be invited, applicants to state weekly salary required, applications to be sent in ou or before Saturday, the lUth ot ." "March." After considerable discussion the motion was carried, and the meeting .■' then closed. , . . ' A public meeting convened for the pur- " pose of giving the candidates for seats on the town board an opportunity of expressing their views on matters bearing upon tho prosperity of the township, was held in the Public Hall on Saturday evening. 1 There was a good attendance of the residents, but only three of the candidates were present to address them, viz., Messrs 1). J. Fraser, J. Cornea, and P. Dillon. Although none of these gentlemen were up- . holders of the form of local government .now about to be introduced; each of them ■expressed his willingness to give it a fair trial, and if returned'would uso his best endeavours to make it a success. It is hoped this spirit will animate each meniJtopofthenew board, and tfiat, forgetting . ' ?jdl*past differences, they will keep in view the welfare of the community, and act unitedly in their endeavours to promote tho prosperity of the new town district.
