WHATAWHATA.

0. Notwithstanding the excessive drought we have had, I think as regards crops, -we can compare favourably with the other districts of Waikato. As an instance of the richness of the Waipa Valley, Mr R. Noble ot Kaniwhaniwha has some of the finest craps I have ever beheld. He has a2O acre paddock of swede turnips, which are, without exception, the best crop I have seen in Waikato. They will probably be heard of at the forthcoming show. Pie has a paddock of ten acres of Hobarfc potatoes, which competent judges say will yield between ten and twelve tons to the acre. His six acres of corn is something worth looking at. It is fully nine feet high. The cobs are fifteen inches long. I measured nineteen of them this length. Mr Henry Moore of Ohote has some excellent melons, pumpkins, and vegetable marrows. Mr Dawsun informs me that he is compelled to stop butter and cheese making, owing to the small price obtained for it. This is a pity, as his cheese is so well and favourably known that it is quite unnecessary for me to make any comments on it. Mr D. Ward, of "the Public Works Office, has been out inspecting the Wai paRaglan road, and has put a number of men on it. He informs me he has received instructions to put it iu thorough repair before the winter sets in. This work required doing very much, as the bridges are very dangerous. He intends to make a good job of it. —(Own Correspondent, March V.)
