WAITETUNA NEWS.

A meeting of the ratepayers, of the Whaingaroa Road District, was held at the board room on Saturday to consider the advisability of levying a special rate of % of a penny in the pound on all rateable property in the district, to be expended as follows :— £350 on Raglan Wharf, and £150 on building bridge over Waimarino Creek. In the absence of Mr Sutton, the chairman of the road district, Mr J, K, McDonald was voted to the chair. After some little discussion, Mr S. Wilson proposed and Mr J. Moon seconded, " That a special rate of g of a penny be struck, to provide interest to sinking fund for loan of £500." Carried unanimously. The ordinary business of the board was then proceeded with. Mr McDonald, on examining the minute book, found that the minutes of last meeting were missing. The clerk was also absent. His conduct was severely criticised, and a protest lodged condemning his negligence. The following tenders were received for Hazlitt's culvert: W. Cannell, £30; M. Harsant, £24 10s; M. Harsant, £23 10s ; C. Moon, £24 15s (informal) ; Douglas and Johnston, £2010s; J. Douglas, £18 (accepted). On the motion ot the chairman, the clerk was instructed to write to Government, urging the necessity of completing the remaining two miles_ of the Whaingaroa-Huntly road, at the Waitetuna end, as the part already made is practically useless unless this part is formed. —(Own Correspondent, Feb. 28).
