MANGAPIKO AND THE HOSPITAL QUESTION.
A meeting of ratepayers of the above district was held at Paterangi on Saturday last, to consider the question of carrying out the provisions of the Hospital and Charitable Institutions Act. There was a moderate attendance of ratepayers, and the following resolutions were adopted, Mr J. Ryburn filling the chair :—l. That a central hospital at Hamilton or elsewhere would not fulfil the requirements of the district, but that if the salary that would have to be paid to a resident doctor wore divided to subsidise the local practitioners in their several districts, and the road and town boards made the relieving officers and distributors of charitable aid, with a provision for renting cottages as need arise, near the residences of the subsidised doctors, all at present necessary would be provided for, and the settlers helped in the present difficulty of inducing medical men to reside and practice among them. 2. That all officers under the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board be appointed by public tender, applicants stating their own amount of salary, also that no buildings be erected during the current year, but cottages be rented as required for a temporary arrangement. 3. That the county representative be requested to lay these resolutions before the Hospital Board at its next meeting.
