SONNET TO MY VIOLIN.
Why do I prize thee more than other ..things ? 'Tis that thou art a friend of byegone days, And callest back from out the gathering haze, One lost, who loved the music of thy strings,— Lost long ago, but still thy music flings A bridge o'er which my memory fondly strays, Far back into those love-illumined ways, Where happy hours flew by on golden Wings ; Since by thy aid, I have the power to win A vision back, o'er which the years have rolled, A fair face crowned with rippling locks of gold, Blue laughing eyes, sweet lips, and dimpled chin. What wonder that above all things, I hold, My greatest treasure is my violin. —J. H. Symes.
