THE WAIHOU HOTEL BURNED DOWN.
(BY telegraph.— own correspondent.) Te Akoha, Friday. Gabolinsky's Hotel at Waihou, Waitoa, was burnt to the ground to-day. The fire was first observed about one o'clock at the back part of the roof, which was of shingles. It could only bo be got at with difficulty, and as a gentle wind was blowing, the flames spread rapidly, and in less than half-an-hour the building was a heap of ashes. Very little of the furniture was saved. The house was the property of Mr Ehrenfreid, brewer, and is said to have been insured in the New Zealand Office, but the amount is not known. Mr Gabolinsky is a heavy loser. Much sympathy is felt for him and his wife, who is only now recovering from the effects of the accident that betel her some two months ago. The fire is supposed to have originated from a spark from the kitchen chimney, falling on the roof.
