Wellington, Wednesday. Last night, on three different occasions, three fires were discovered in a large building in ' Quin-street, occupied by questionable characters, The premises are owned by Morton Cjjuin. The police intend to make a searching enquiry, as incendiarism is suspected. Admiral Tryon expressed himself favourable', to stationing two war vessels if New Zealand contributes their quota to the proposed general naval defence of the colonies. The Admiral considers the demand of the Government in this respect a reasonable one, but of course the matter would have to receive the sanction of the Home Government. At the University .Senate Dr. Hector, delivered the annual address. The accounts show an income of £'5161 including £300, grant from Government and Tinline Scholarship Donation £100. The expenditure was £3640 "including £1464, cost of examinations, £1200 for scholarship. The balance was £1501. The chancellor said they had received by cable the result of the November examinations) much earlier than usual. A synopsis showed that one candidate came up for the M.A. degree, and passed with honours in arts; four pussed and one failed for L.L.D.; one passed and one failed'for L.L.B. ; eight passed and one failed for B.A. degree. The Premier does not anticipate , any difficulty about the French interference in Tonga. He is of opinion that German jealousy would be aroused by |he appearance of the French 1 so clriee to Samoa. The Diamond sails under orders trom Admiral Tryon.
