BANKRUPTCY.
The first general meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Thomas Luck Green, storekeeper and contractor, Te Aroha, was held at the court-house, Te Aroha, on Thursday last. The Deputy Assignee (Mr J. S. Edgecumbe) presided. The following proofs were received :— J. VVood, £51 18a lid ; J. Robinson, £9 3s Gd ; P. Baine, £18 4s Gd ; C. Pyne, £59 Is 8d ; James Johnstone, £17 10s 4d; J. H. Grafton, £5 3s 7d; Walter Lawrence, £13 18s 6d ; J. W. Wright, E3 17s Cd ; Marcus Maingay, £5; Kettlewell, £1G 13s 9d ; Comes, £11 lGs 3d ; E. Barton, £3 19s 9d ; W. Jackson, £4 12s 7d; Mickelson, £4 11s (id: J. Sheat, £(i os 5d : J. Hedgen, £6 Is lid ; J. Read, £4 19s Gd ; B. Montague, £6 0s Gd ; C. Smith, £9 17s 10d ; Wm. McClear, £9 15s 3d; B. Hill, £6 18s; J. P. Cocks, £8 3s ; C. Kerby, £3 Is Gd : G. Kenny, £9 9s 2d ; Henfield, £18 15s ; J. Roberts', £4 15s 5d ; Rehal, £2 2s Gd ; W. Allen. £7 5s 10d ; H. Southey. sen., and H. Southey, jun., £15 14s ; Thomas Brown, £8 8s 8d; J. B. Johnson, £G 3s 10d ; Aitken, £15 Kis 8d ; and R. Sampson, £4 Is 3d : Total, £379 7s 7d. The bankrupt's statements of assets and liabilities were then read by the assignee, also his sworn statement.—ln reply to Mr Montague, the bankrupt stated that he had received the sum of £508 from the Auckland Agricultural Company, which lie disposed of in the' following manner :—To workmen he paid £3GO; Mr Pyne, £40; Mr J. Wood, £33, butcher's account; Mr Edwards, £15; Mr Larne.y, £10; MiAbbey, £G ; Mr Balcke, £5; and Mr Aitkin, £21.—Mr J. Wood asked the bankrupt what he did with the £70 which he lent him.—The bankrupt stated that he paid Mr Wood £40 back again, and £30 to Messrs Hunt and Co. He denied having put any money away, avowing that he had not a sixpense. In reply to a question put by Mr Montague, the bankrupt said lie could not say what the total amount of the workmen's contra accounts were. In answer to Mr Cornes the bankrubt said he had no verbal agreement with any person when he took the contract from the Auckland Agricultural Company. He also stated that Captain Bailey had retained his (thq bankrupt's) copy of the contract when making the final settlement, and that he had kept no banking account, nor had he signed two contracts for the grass seed work. He denied having circulated a report that Mr Bailey was giving 2W per tt> for the rape seed, and that he (Mr Bailey) would take 100 tons. It was resolved :— (1) That the bankrupt be allowed to retain his furniture and tools of trade at his residence, Tβ Aroha.—Carried. (2) That the assignee realise the assets at an early a date as possible.—Carried.— In reply to Mr J. Wood, the bankrupt said a young horse which he had recently been breaking was not his property, but belonged to a young lady from the Thames.— It was resolved that the assets be sold by Mr Cocks. On the motion of Mr Pyne, a vote iof thanks was accorded the Deputy Assignee for the patient and courteous manner in which lie had conducted the proceedings, and the meeting terminated. > ____^_ -
