I'by telkgrafh—press association.] WANGANUI, Tliursday. Ax impudent theft was committed this afternoon. A woman went into a shop of a sewing machine proprietor, and during his temporary absence in the other part of the house walked off with a sewing machine valued at £3 10s, which she subsequently sold to a fisherman for ss. The detectives arrested the woman this afternoon. CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. A large meeting of carriers to-night passed a resolution approving of the action of the Government in doubling the parcels tariff on railways, and requesting them to maintain the same. DUNE DIN, Friday. Tiijs hon. Mr Larnach leaves Wellington for Auckland on Friday. He will visit Wangarei aud the Thames, and will confer with the Auckland Chamber of Commerce on mining matters. The Premier also visits Auckland shortly. NAPIER, Friday. Arrived: H.M.s. Nelson.
