CELEBRATION OF THE QUEEN'S JUBILEE.
« [BY TELEGRAPH.—COPYRIGHT.) [bedter's telegrams.] Calcutta, February 15. The celebration of the Queen's Jubilee took place to-day in the various cities and towns throughout India. The proceedings were everywhere of a most brilliant character. Great enthusiasm was displayed. A grand native procession took place. Special religious services were held, and at night most of the towns were brilliantly illuminated. The jubilee was further celebrated by tha wholesale liberation of prisoners in gaol for petty crimes and debt. February 10. Lord Dutferin, the Viceroy, in receiving addresses in connection with the celebration of the Queen's Jubilee, delivered a speech in which he expressed approval of the ambition of the natives to gain a wider control of the domestic affairs of the country. He stated that he should be pleased if he were able to extend their political status.
