The claim they apply for is one mile in length and a halt'-milo i u width, and is situated about half-way between Martin's Bay and Milford Sound. The ground is near the sea, and of terrace formation, while specimens of fold found there by them and submitted to the W.-mlcn are of a coins '■ nature, and mixed with quartz, '.lif.y state that they can earn from £3 to .-C8 per week per man, and there is room in the vicinity for a couple of hundred miners. The Warden intimated that the applicants would have to supply written statements confirmatory of what they said, and that the same would be forwarded to the authorities. A child named Arnot, living on the Peninsula, was scalded to death this morning through falling into a pail of hot water. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. J. Parsons dropped dead at Castle-hill Statiou on Saturday. NELSON, Monday. Arthur Avery was drowned while bathing in the river at Spring Grove yesterday. BULLS, Monday. The circulars sent out by Mr Wilson, M.H.R., to the school children of New Zealand, requesting subscription to the penny dinner fund in London to give half-starved children, attending the schools a good dinner, resulted in the handsome sum of £50 being collected to date, which it is proposed to forward ->v next mail through the Mayor of Wellington.
