R.M. COURT, CAMBRIDGE.
«, Friday.—(Before Captain Jackson, R.M.) CIVIL CASES. James Keeley v. T. Tuke.—Claim, £2 Bs. Judgment for plaintiff. C. Craig v. MoiutissKY.— Claim, £2. Verdict for plaintiff. A. McKay v. Hopkins axd Co.— Claim £53 19s. Mr Whitaker for plaintiff, and Mr Dyer for defendants. In tins case the plaintiff was a sub-contractor under the defendants, and the claim was for work expended upon totara trees in the Waotu bush that proved worthless, and would not turn out good poles. The evidence was very voluminous, and occupied the court until f).30 p.m. A number of men who had been" working tinder plaintiff and had not received their wages, were present as witnesses. Judgment for defendant, with costs, £8 Is. ASSAULT CASE. Patrick Murphy was charged with assaulting his wife, Mary T. Murphy, on the 29th January, by spitting iu her face, and pushing: her out of the house. Mr Dyer for plaintiff. Plaintiff proved tho assault, and was being questioned by defendant when the 11. M. stopped him, and asked Constable Brennan if he was in a fit state to appear in Court. The constable explained than an unexpired prohibition order was out against defendant. His wife interjected, " He's continually drunk." Defendant: " Yes ! and she gets me more than anyone else." The R.M. adjourned the case until this morning at 11a.m., when it will be heard before justices.
