(FltOH OUR OWN COKRKSPONDBN'T.) Tβ AnoHA, Friday. Thk monthly meeting of the district school committee was held on Tuesday evening, and was attended by the following members, Messrs Vause (chairman), Ahier, Lavery.jllotfcjand Maekie. Correspondence was read from the Board of Education. Ist. Relative to the annual report and accounts for the past twelvemonths; 2nd., regarding the election of members of the board, b'.it as no notice had been received from any of the candidates seeking reelection, no action was taken ; 3rd., informing the committee of the appointment of Miss Reid as teacher, in place of Miss G-ibbons, removed. A letter was read from Mr W. J. Barlow, requesting the committee to apply to the Board of Education to have his services as drill instructor extended to the To Aroha school. It was resolved that the secretary write to tho school committees at Paeroa and Waiorongomai, asking them to join with this committee in urging the board to appoint a drill instructor for these schools, and pointing out that the committee would prefer the appointment of a local man, Mr Barlow to be informed accordingly. The head teacher's report was read, and showed the average attendance of pupils to have been 110. Notice was given by the chairman of his intention to withdraw from the committee, as other business would not admit of his continuing to be a member. The following is the statement of accounts for the past year:— Rnceipts: Balance in hand at January Ist, 1880, £3 8$ Gd ; grant for ordinary incidental purposes, £22 10s ; do. for gravelling school yard, £1 12s ; total, £27 10s (id. Expenditure: Cleaning school, &c.,£12 2s 0d ; fuel for school use, £11>3 (5d ; repairs to buildings, furniture and fences, £4 12s 2d ; books, maps, and furniture, £i lGs Gd ; gravelling yard, £112s; balance in bank, 10s; total, £27 10s Gd.

At the meeting of Lodge Te Aroha, No, (597, S.C., held last night, the following brethren were installed as office-bearers for the ensuing year:—R.W.M., Bro. Jno. Farrell; Deoute Master, Bro. J. Lavery ; Substitute Master; J. W., Bro. A. F. James; treasurer, Bro. Geo. Wilson, P.M. ; secretary, Bro. Dobson, P.M.; Tyler, Bro. Erasmus. Bro. Pavitt, P.M., acted as installing officer, and performed the duties in his usual impressive manner. There was a fair attendance of the members, but several of the brethren who had been elected to office were unavoidably absent. After the business of the evening was over, a pleasant half-hour was spent in social enjoyment. ___________
