[BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 Death of an Old Identity. Auckland, Wednesday Night. Isaac Wade, a settler in Auckland since 1542, died suddenly to-day. The Volunteers. The examination of the staff officcrß by the Council of Military Education will take place here between the 22nd and 30th inst. General Whitmore. General Whitmore proceeds South tomorrow. Bush Fires. News comes from Pukekaroro that a destructive fire has been raging in the Te Puni bush for nearly a week past. The bushmen's whares and implements have been consumed and a large quantity of valuable standing timber, while some contractors have suffered serious loss through the burning of squared logs. It is likewise reported that many working bullockt have been roasted. The Manapouri. Arrived : The Manapouri, from Sydney. Supreme Court. A true bill was returned to-day by'the Grand Jury on the charge of arson brought against J. S. Gibbons. They also found a truo bill in the case of Caffrey and Penn.
