Cambridge v. Hamilton.
These teams met for the first time this season on the latter's ground last Saturday, : and had a most enjoyable match, resulting in a win for Hamilton by 5 wickets. It is only fair to say that the Cambridge men had very short notice of the match, and two or three well-known faces were absent on their side. Cambridge winning the toss elected to bat, but were all out in an hour for 48, to which Mr F. Gaudin and " extras " each contributed 12. After an enjoyable lunch provided by Mr E. L. Smith of the Royal Hotel, Hamilton was on the defenshe, and lost-that usually certain bat, Mr Stevens, first ball. Mr Byng was badly missed in his first ball, in the slips, and showed his appreciations.pf the indulgence by making 32 without any further chance till Mr Gaudin accepted one off Mr A. Forrest. Mr Boyd was not out for .11 when the innings closed for 83, to which extras contributed 17. The feature af the Cambridge 2nd innings was the batting of Mr Wilson, who made 41 without a flaw till well caught by Mrßyng off Mr Stevens. Extras again reached a double figure, 15, and the last wicket fell for Bf>, leaving Hamilton 52 to win, which they acomplished at the cost of 5 wickets, Mr Browning contributing 19, and Messrs Byng and Barton 12 and 6 each (not out). Messrs Longbottom and Browning captained the respective sides. It is hoped that the return match will be played in about three weeks. Matches with Ohaupo and Kihikihi are expected on the next two Saturdays on Sydney Square. We append full score and bowling analysis Cambridge. Ist. Innings. 2nd. Innings.
