It is announced that Lord Cross has reconsidered his decision to resign, arid has consented to retain the position of Secretary of State of India. It is stated that the Earl of Carnarvon will succeed Mr Edward Stauhopcas Secretary of State for the Colonies. January It is announced that Lord Salisbury will replace the E trl of Iddesluigh as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. The Times considers that Sir H. T. Holland, Vice-president of the Council, is pieferahle to the Earl of Cadogan a-' Se -rotary of State for the Colonies, and it regrets that Mr E. Stanhope was transpired. It oas not yet been decided who sh; U succeed Mr Edward Stanhope as Secret;.ry of State for the U>>l nies. The Earl of Cadogan has been mentioned as likely to accept that portioli'. Tne Daily News of yesterday publishes an article denying the statement made by the Standard that Mr Gladstone was ininclined to modify his Home Rule for Ireland scheme, with a view to conciliate the Unionist Liberals. January 7. , Earl Morley is mentioned as likely to succeed Mr Stanhope as Secretary of State for the Colonies. The Standard states that Mr Gladstone is willing that the powers of his proposed Irish Parliament should be confined to dealing with certain specified subjects.
