[kkdtkrs telegrams. Melbourne, January 4. The half-yearly returns of the Victorian railways show a large increase in spite of the reductions which have recently been made in fares. The Ar#us has made the preliminary estimate of eleven to twelve million of bushels as the yield of wheat in Victoria this season. A penny post card service between the Australian Colonies has been commenced. It is hoped that New Zealand will join in the same. January, 3. The Te Anau sailed this afternoon for the Bluff. Sydney, January 4. The New South Wales revenue for the past year amounted to £7,594,000, beiug £745,000 less than the sum estimated—namely, £8,339,000. The decrease is principally from the income from land and railways. THE LATEST. . «. (Recewd December 25th, 1 a.m.) Melbourne, Wednesday. The manager of the National Mortage Agency Company reports at the local grain market as follows: —Shipping wheat steady but not active, demand, 3s 10d to 3s lid ; Malting barley quiet, 3s Gd to 4a 3d ; New Zealand oats. The feeling is less depressed but their is not much doing at 2s 9d to 3s ; milling t'air demand, 3s to 3s Id ; New Zealand oats under bond slow of sale, 3s Id to 3s 3d. The Governments of New South Wales and Victoria have agreed to the holding of a conference at Adelaide for the consideration of the question of utilizing the river Murray for irrigation purposes. Adelaide, Wednesday. Altogether, four cases of smallpox are at the quarantine station, but none of dangerous character. (Received January sfh, 1.10 p.m.) Sydney, Wednesday. The actual deficiency in the colonial revenue at the end of the year is estimated at two millions and »i. half.
