A short servico was held in the above chur"li at a quarter to twelve, after which the children and their friends, numbering about 350 proceeded to Mr Bonds grounds on the Victoria road. Here there is a large paddock thickly set with pine trees, the lower branches having been topped off. This proved the very acrne of perfection for a picnic on such a day a3 Satuarday, and being close to tho town, the annoyance of a journey by road, with its complement of dust, heat Ac., was avoided. A large quantity of provision*, fruit t&c., had been provided by members of the congregation, who after administering to the wants of tlw scholass attended to to"their own require meats. During the ofternoon various amusements wora indulged in, races, skipping mutches and French tiguo being th<* favourites. 4 string band consisting yf Messrs Lamb; Lorigau, Norman, Sirmn* and Stewart very kindly attended and played several • selections but tha breeze was so strong that it carried the sound away, rendering their efforts of none avail. After tea, the youngsters again indulged in games, and before separating gave thi-ee cheers for Mr Bond and his family, a!s6 tor the superintendent'of the school (Mr Stewart), after which they departed homewards. The Yen. Archdeacon was ably assisted by Messrs Wells, Hill, Armershaw, Stewart, and many other members of the congregation, among whom we must not forget to mention the ladies, wht* no doubt contributed the lions share, and in a great measure made it such a success.
