FIRE AT HAMILTON WEST.
At about half-past two o'clock on Christmas morning a tive-rootned cottage, the property of Mrs Webb, and situated on the west side of the river, just opposite Barton V Breweiy, was destroyed by tire. It was occupied as a .sleeping place by Mr John Webb, who was asleep when the fire broke out, and had a very narrow escape. He cannot account for the origin of the fire, though it is conjectured that some spaiks ,jnust have jjot under the shingles. Nothing whatever was saved, Mr Webb, as indicated, just getting off with his life. In addition to the cott.ige, the outbuildings were also burnpd down. The whole were injured in the Imperial Office for the sum of £'170. Mr Webb had been working on the property for Home time, putting it in order, &c, for his mother, who contemplated removing thither from her present residence.
