HAMILTON EAST SCHOOL ENTERTAINMENT.

The annual Christmas entertainment in connection with this school took place in the Oddfellows 1 Hall on Tuesday night, and was a marked success. The hall was crowded to excess. The first part of the entertainment consisted of a juvenile play entitled " There are none so blind as those who will not see." The characters were sutiined|by some of the older pupils, who discovered great proficiency and aptitude for the stage, aud who received the warm commendations of the audience. Then succeed aome part songs sung by the younger children, and the entertainment closed with the distribution of gifts from the Christmas Tree, or rather trees, for two huge pines on either side partially obscured the pro3cenium. One tree contained the girls' prizes and the other the boys', and the articles embraced almost every description of toy. So far a3 could be Been, every pupil in the school received something. The distribution was made by the head teacher, Mr Stevens, after which Mr Searancke, chairman of the school committee, addressed a few words to the children, taking occasion t ( > pay a well-deserved compliment to Mr Stevens and fie other teachers on account of the marked progress made during the past year. The proceedings terminatod with the National Anthem.
