PASSENGERS BY THE MAIL (BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
Auckland, Monday Might. Thk Mariposa on this voyage had quite a notable company. Among the New Zealand passengers were Mr James Mills, managing director of the Union Steamship Company,' and Mr Deveniah Meares, of the Union Insurance Company. Bound for Australia were Mr Griffin, reappointed Consul at Sydney ; Mr Julian Thomas, "the Vagabond," returning from the Colonial Exhibition ; Mr Donald Cameron. M.P. for Wickborough (a mining expert), who goes to Queensland to report on the mines there ; Mr Chaffey, who has been negotiating wiMi the Victorian Government for the introduction of a system of irrigation ; Mr R. H. Holme*., a journalist from Canada, who is travelling and writing articles for various journals; and Mr James Pain, the wellknown manufacturer of fireworks, who proposes ghing ,\ great pyrstechnic display in all the leading cities in Australasia, celebrating the Queen's Jubilee.
