CAMBRIDGE SPORTS COMMITTEE.

Thr above committee met at the Duke of Cambridge Hotel on Wednesday evening. Present :— Messrs G. VV. Russell, (chairman), H. Gillett, A. Bach, W. S. Stewart, T. B. Lewis, R. Wood and McMillan. A communication waa received from Mr J. D. Arnaboldi, offering the use of the totalisator at 2£ per cent, on the first £100, and 5 per cent, on any subsequent amount. The Chairman said he thought it was only racing clubs that were allowed to use totalisators. The Secretary was instructed to write to Mr Arnaboldi to that effect. (Mr Arnaboldi informs us that Mr Adams' totalisator ia used at football matches.) The next business was to decide which band was to play at the sports. Mr R. Lamb attended, and explained how it was that the Cambridge Band would not accept the engagement for the ball without they also had the one for the sports. The Chairman said he was most anxious to keep the money in tha town, and that it was at his suggestion that the Cambridge Band were asked to tender, but he must say that the performance he had heard was not satisfactory. Mr Lamb explained that the night the chairman had heard them practising there was not half the band present. He would guarantee a band of 10 performers for the day and four for the ball. This offer was accepted. Mr H. Gillett proposed that " the quotations of Thk W'ViK vro Times and Star be accepted, and that the advertisement be inserted in those papers," as last year. Mr Russell proposed as an amendment, "that three advertisements of one inch each be put in the Star only." For the amendment there voted Messrs Russell, "W S. Stewart, Me Millan, and Arthur Bach ; for the resolution, Messrs H. Gillett, T. B. Lewis, and It. Wood. The amendment was therefore carried. Several matters of minor importance received attention, and the meeting .separated.
