LATEST WELLINGTON NEWS. [BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Friday.
A proclamation in the Supplementary Gazette is published tonight further proroguing Parliament until the 10th of February. Capt. Wood of the barque G.M. Tucker, which arrived last evening from Newcastle reports having passed a portion of a wreck at noon on Sunday about 200 mile-> off Cape Farewell. He could not however make close inspection, the wind being unfavourable, the wreckage which floated bottom upwards, appeared to belong to a vessel of about 200 tons, and was evidently that portion from the stern to about midships, so that she muat have had her back broken. The damage to the steamer Kawatiri, which struck on Kangitoto yesterday is estimated at £2000. One plate will have to be removed and two others taken out and renewed. Mr» Jones, the wife of W. Jones, an old settler, has been found dead in a creek at Paihatua.
