THE DEAD MEAT TRADE.
It will be remembered that in answer to the Mayor of Hamilton, the General Manager of Railways, Mr Maxwell, wrote, stating that the concessions in the freight on dead meat proposed were in his opinion a sufficient inducement to establish the industry. Since then Mr Graham haa received the following communication from the Minister of Public Works :— Railway Department Head Office, Wellington, Ist. December, 1886. Sir,—l have the honour to inform you that the General Manager of Railways has brought under my notice your further enquiries about the meat rate from Hamilton to Auckland. Having ascertained from enquiries made in accordance with your wishes, that the concession promised is sufficient, I do not think it should, at present, be necessary to guarantee further concessions but when the meat trade under consideration has been started, I shall be glad to have any fresh information for consideration.—l have the honour to be, Sir, your obedient .servant.
EinvAKD Richardson', Minister for Public Works. W. A. Graham, Esq., Mayor of Hamilton, Waikato.
