This is legarded as a first-class return. There was considerable excitement this morning at a rumour of the presence of an animal on the river said to be of the Waikato saurian species. A number of natives and river settlers were out with guns, &c, and the annual was tiaced np the Ohinemuri to Paeroa, where it disappeared. It was again seen at the Junction Mill this evening, and fired at by beveral of the lnnds. In all probability it will turn out to be a seal or a porpoise, although it is .said to possess all the attributes of its Hamilton relative. The annual meeting of the Ohinemnri County Council was held to-day, when Cr. Cook was re-elected chairman, beating Cr. Humphries by a majority of one. Ci->. Cook, NicholN, and Walsh wei<3 elected as trustees and delegates to the Thames Hospital and Chai itable Aid Board.
