THE TITHE WAR IN WALES.
On Tuesday the farmers in the paiish of Llantyhiliu, in the Vale of Llangollen, piesented an application to the tithe aw ner-» for a. leduction of 2~> per ctMit. on tho tithe charge now due. The fanners have e\ pressed their determination to emul.ite the example of their Llauarmon brethren, and resist the payment of tithes unless the abatement is granted, and it is feared that many of the farms will shortly be distrained upon. The \icar of the paiis.li has foi some time been at variance with a largo proportion of the parishioner*, and the following memorial to Hir "VVatkin Williams Wynn, patron of the living, is now being extensively higned throughout the parish :—" Your petitioners humbly pray that you will be pleased to take Mich steps as you may deem necest-ary for the purpose <»f lemoving the Rev. John Samuel Jones from the euro of souls in this pau-*h, as there aio no piospectwhatever of tho restoration of peace during tho remainder of his incumbency^ and we furthor pr.iv that V'»u will kindly e\erc!m* your inHueuce with the loid bishop of the diocese, .so a« to give effect to the prayer of your petitioners," $Ir Robert
Sibson, of tho Diocesan Registry office, St. Asnph, has issued notices tn the farmers of the Llanassa pariah tiat the tithes for the pa^t half-year will be payable next week .it the Red Lion Inn, whore he will attend to receive them. Llnn,it*a is a little village hidden in the mountains winch overlook the e-tu.iry of the Dee. As f.ir as the vicar is cncerned, there is every expectation th:it .in •unicaule settlement will be c 'me to, aa the rev. gentleman, who ia persuiidly popular, ha^ e\-pres-.ed his readiness to rnfet the fanners aiid discubs their gnevtinces with them. The total amount of tithes payable i* £1000, out of which the vicar receive* £300, and the renninder is taken by the rector of I'ientatyn, the Rev. Mr Price, and the Ecclesiastical Commissioners. Beforfl tho tithes for the half-year nre paid the fur'nern will hear from the joint proprietors, and will then hold a meeting to decide whether they will accept the offer or resist payment as their brethren are doing at Llanarmon.
