The following petition is at the pie^ent time being tiken lomul tho Waikato, and so far has been freely subso ibed to : — To the Honourable the jNlimm'ku of

Lands. The petition of the residents of Ngaruawahia and .surrounding districts humbly sheweth •— 1. That there is a large area of public lands situated between the Wai pa river and the West Coast suitable for settlement under the Perpetual Leasing Act. 2. You i* petitioners have good reason for believing that there are a number of " people in the Waikato who would be willing to occupy these lands if thrown open for settlement. 3. The success which has attended the scheme of village settlement in tho north cominces them that similar success would be attained in this district. 4. Settlers located on these lands would require to look to the Waikato for the .sale of their stock and produce. .">. A good practicable road eonld easily bt> made horn the Mangaohe Creek (commonly known as Firewood Creek) at Ngaruawahia to the.se lands. (! J3y the opening up of these lands by roads would bring the Raglan Hot Springs within twelve miles of Ngaruawahi.i. These springs are known for their medicinal and valuable qualities. — Wo therefore beg your earliest and most fas onrable consideration of this our petition, and yoxir petitioner will ever pray, &c., &c, &c.
