THE V.R.C. MEETING. ARSENAL WINS THE CUP.

[special oam.kgkam.] Mklhouumk, November 2. The second day's racing of the V. H.C. Club took place at Flomington to-day. The weathor wan intensely hot, and there was no wind. It is estimated that the attendance was larger than last year, and that fully 135,000 were present. The lawn was packed, and presented a more brilliant spectacle than over. The stands were overcrowded. His Excellency the Governor and suite, and the Governors of South Australia, Now South Wales "rind Tasmania were also present. The win of Arsenal in the Clip, although ho has been well supported by the public and the stable, is a good one for the bookmakers. The winner was previously owned by tho Hon. W. Pearson, but last year was purchased by Mr W. Gannon, of Sydney. Trenton anil Silvermine, which ran second and third respectively, ran well throughout. A good start was effected, Trenton. Metal, Commotion and M.ilua being the \ first away, with Silvermine, Boolka, Kitawa, Isonomy, and Bntisher leading the second division. Passing tho cat i i v*v paddock the order was : Silve.mino m the lead, then Br.no, Metal, Roc ill, Tsonomy. Meteor, Britisher and Kitawa. As the horsos swept po>t the st»nd Bravo was running neck and neck w ith Silvermine, with Motnl, B >olka, and Isonomy in close, attendance. Hesh.un was t-t.il 1 at the lead of the field as they approached the biidgo, and Sih ermine had dropped back sixth, having been supplanted by Boolka, Kitaw.i, I-.onr»my and Trident. As tho hordes approached the straight, Trident was taken to the front, followed by Silvormine, Hexhain, Myall King, Crossfire, and Ban Bolt. At the distance post Arsenal, whose colours had been prominent throughout the race now improved his position. When fairly in the straight Hexhain fell away beaten, and left Ar>cnnl, Trident and Silvermine at the he.id of affairs. The latter at the half distance looked like the winner, but here Arsenal pas-ed tlio fa\ourite, and getting on even terms «vith SilvennMio, a d^p-'rato race ensued all the way homo, Ar>mil winning by a nock from Trenton, who came with a imgnificent rush tow aids the finish, and « re»tod s-econd place fiom Silvermine, who iinuslied a good third.
