VOLCANIC DISTURBANCE AT TAUPO.
The Wellington cot respondent of the Herald telegraphed on Satuiday :—": — " Tiie Postmaster-General received the following telegram to-day from the Postmaster at Taiipo :— On Thnisday, at 8.0 p.m., two violent shockd of caith(]iuke occuried here, following in quick succession, travelling appirently from S.W. to IS'.E They weie severely felt on the south end ot the likt . At Rotorua, last night, we >a« volcanic fire in the direction of Rotom jhana. An immense glow would suddenly appear for a idv r minutes, jmcl then di>appeai. This kept <»n for e\ery few minutes fnim 10 oj p.m. to 11.10 p.m. The night was c.ilm, clear, and frosty. Ko sign of activity m the volcanoes south of us. I understand that a telegram has been Bent to Mr Gordon, who is in the neighbourhood, to make all possible euquines as to the phenomena above referred to, and communicate the information he receives, and to take what action he may consider necessary. The telegram re reived from the Postmaster at Taupo is dated Saturdaj', October 30.
