The Government and Captain Cain's Death.
The Post this afternoon, with all the weight of " official utterance," makes the following statement : — "We have authority for contradicting the published rumours that it is unlikely that any steps will be taken to protecutc anyone on the char«ro of hating poisoned Captain Cain. We :u'o now offici illy informed for the fir-,t time that antimony h.n boon discovered in tho body of the late Captain Cain, and tho police .no still engaged, a-> they hate been for M>ine time pa«.t, in woiking up evidence in regaid to the matter. A coroner's inquest will in all probability be held up m the remains, w ith a \ iew to ascertain how and by what moans Capt. Cain ci'iie by hk death. The (Government hxve no intention whatever of abandoning the prosecution of the ca->e if theie is any e\ idence to connect anyone with the ad mimeliation of poison. That i«i now what the p )hce are endeavouring to find out. Had the police been able to find direct evidence implicating, anyone in the murder of Capt Cain an information would have been laid at once, but such evidence was not found. The inquest will be held on Thursday.
