ACCIDENT AT NEWSTEAD.
A vert unfortunate accident befel Mr W. Mandeno, of Te Awamutu, during the sale at Newstoad yesterday. This gentleman in company with others was walking through one of the yards in which were a number of cattle, just at the time two bulls commenced fighting. The persons with whom Mr Mandeno was conversing got upon the fence, but Mr Mandeno, apparently not thinking the animals would come in his direction, did not exercise the same c.iution. Unfortunately on j of the bulls getting the better of the other rushed him towards the fence and crushed Mr Mandeno against one of the po.sta, resulting in a severe fracture of the leg between the knee and •inkle. Assistance was soon rendered, and Mr (iranville, who happened to be present, improvised a splint, and the injured gentleman was cnnvpyed on a. stretcher to the house. In the meantime a mi^.ige had been sent for Dr Muicli, whoanivod about six o'clock and set the broken limb. We learn from the doctor that b >th bon^s of the leg are broken a little bolow the knee, and that the fracture is a severe one.
