Wellixu ton, Monday. The steamer Manapouri which arrived from the north yesterday reports sighting a floating wreck in Palliser Bay, which is believed to be the hull of ketch Janete, wrecked at Cape Campbell. The hteamer Maori went to-day to search of the dmhct but had to return owing to the strong southerly wind and sea. At thrt Supremo Coiut Charles Hodgson was charged with embezzling sums ot £33 4s and £oO 4s belonging to the Union Ba-ik, in which institution accused had been engaged as bill clerk. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty. The .second charge against the accused will ha taken tomorrow. Mr Ballance left for Ma&terton tlii> morning. He was received by the members for the district and other resident^, and representatives of the Small Farm Association, and will be banqueted to-night.
